Thank you for presenting in our FMST 1 class yesterday at UCSC. Amazing work! I am definitely following the webisodes and I will rock my red pumps tonight =)
So in my Intro to Fem class today at UCSC, guest speakers Randy and two cast members (whose names I’ve forgotten – so sorry!) led the lecture hall in a very informative and passionate discussion regarding sexuality/feminism and many other interesting topics. It was extremely rewarding and I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun in a lecture hall! I enjoyed watching the trailer for 50Faggots and the first twenty minutes of Webisode 1. Randy and friends, I wanted to take the time to thank you for sharing your personal experiences and knowledge with me. I’ll be keeping up with your Webisodes and recommending your website to my friends.
Finally! A series to debunk the myths of gender roles and allow real talk about why people feel fear or discomfort concerning people who do not model the “standard characteristics for their gender.” I grew up gay and unable to accept non-masculine behavior because I could’nt see myself in the men who were exhibiting effeminate behavior. I learned on my own the cause was my own fears and have gotten over it – after all, how does the behaviors of others affect who I am as a person? I am simply happy now to be around people who are happy being themselves regardless of societal expectations. I hope this series can open conversations, doors, and minds otherwise held shut by outdated social conventions. Thank you Randall and cast!
Finally I found something that grounds all the highfalutin theorizing of the Academy to something applicable, meaningful, and REAL. Way to make the discourse FIERCE! Werk, bitches. Love from Seattle.
Terrific idea for a web series. As a gay man who is rather effeminate, I am all for anything which explores the reality of those who are too often marginalized as overemoting queens, as if we’re somehow acting out our inner feminine. The reality is that I would never know that I’m effeminate were it not for people — gay and straight, indeed, more opften than not, gay — remarking on it. I am not emoting, I am effemnate. Why it bothers people is still a mystery to me, after all these years. Oddly, when I ask people who remark on my effeminacy (usually in a negative/snarky/sarcastic/revolted way) why they are bothered, very few ever have any genuine reason why they mention it. At any rate, great good luck on this series!
Absolutely! We’d love to start with American gay communities and show the diversity and similarities of them, but eventually move to our global communities. So Steve, how gay are you in the UK?
good start, its great to see if there is a difference between how gay you can be in the US to how gay you can be in the UK, maybe you could bring 50 faggots to the UK sometime and do a comparison
Excellent piece…what a great look at one part of our very diverse LGBT community. Looking forward to seeing more!! We encourage you to share your videos on our site as well with other videos for the drag community.
